Arriving a player short, Airbus still proved too good for home team Rossett A in their Division 1 fixture and comfortably took the match 6 – 2. Ashley Stokes and Kris Wood were in particularly fine form for Airbus when they faced Simon Lane and Matt Orchard at first men’s. Stokes and Wood won the first game 21/19 but Lane and Orchard rallied to just nick the second 24/22. The deciding game was a bit of an anticlimax with Stokes and Wood turning on the style and by adopting attacking play and fierce smashes cruised to a convincing 21/9 win and their match. Read more
Entries were disappointing but the standard of play was excellent. Johan Varghese (Mold) proved too strong in the U11 singles beating Luke Doughty (CQ) 21-6,21-4. In the U13 singles semis Matthew Swash (Mold) beat Varghese 15-9,15-7 and Max Gilbert (Prestatyn) got the better of clubmate Rhys Shanks 15-9,13-15,15-4. Swash beat Gilbert 15-11,15-9 to win the final. The doubles was a real battle with Gilbert and Shanks just beating Swash and Javen Low 12-15, 15-12,15-12. Read more
The North East Wales Badminton League Tournament, held at Deeside Leisure Centre was an outstanding success, with over 50 entries and a record 23 pairs in the mixed doubles event. Excellent handicapping of entrants by Secretary David Hewitt and his committee ensured that many close matches were enjoyed throughout the day by both spectators and players. Read more
In Division 1 of the North East Wales Badminton League, Flint Phoenix A were once again in dominating form and handed out a 6 – 2 thrashing away to Ruthin A. At first ladies Fiona Reid and Heather Astley were one of Ruthin’s winning combinations when they gave an outstanding display of doubles tactics to outwit their highly rated opponents, Carla White and Jude Hughes, in an outstanding 21/16, 21 /19 triumph. As part of The NEW way Badminton project we will be putting on a number of workshops on a needs basis that include practical demonstrations for coaches and an open forum for discussions on development matters. We are hoping that with the introduction of these workshops, we can build a coaching network throughout the region to help us review and propose future coaching objectives. Read more

We would like to thank Gareth for all the work he has done for the organisation since taking up the role last year, specifically in helping the organisation have greater financial governance and control.

The closing date for the Junior Shuttle Plus is fast approaching – Friday 31st March.
I would really appreciate your support in trying to push for more entries for this event as currently numbers are low.As you’re aware, many of the South Wales Shuttle events have had to be cancelled this season so anything you can do to help promote this event to your players would be greatly appreciated.

There were many good performances but the highlight was the three U19 championship titles won by Andrew Oates (CQ) without conceding a game. In the singles he beat Mold’s Tomos Sudder 21-16,21-11. In the semi Sudder had played brilliantly to defeat second seed Oliver Stansfield (S Wales) in a thriller 21-19,17-21,21-15. In the boys doubles final Oates partnered Conwy’s Joe Cottrill to beat Sudder and Jamie Noble (Flint) 21-13,21-10. Then in the mixed doubles Oates and Gean Sou Mo (S Wales) beat Joe and Abi Cottrill 21-12,21-17. Read more
