This has been a much improved season. The only defeats have been to the highly rated Lancashire 1 (3-17) and Derbyshire (4-16). Convincing wins were achieved against Hereford (20-0), Cumbria (15-5), Shropshire (16-4). With a weakened team due to some players representing Wales in the Celtic Challenge.
The team has been represented by Amy Jukes, Bethan Sudder, Megan Rowlands, Emma Paton, Cerys Brackenbury (U13), Reya Patil, Tonicha Font, Scott and Andy Oates, Dhruv Bansal, Martyn Smith-Aldous, Iwan Pullen, Tomos Sudder and Jamie Noble. Tomos and Jamie, also U13, made their debuts recently against Shropshire winning 2/2 and 3/3 of their matches respectively.
The Senior League Tables have been updated with results received up to10 February 2013. In Division 1, Airbus have opened up a sizeable gap and are clear favourites to be Champions. Flint Phoenix A are still in second place, but their recent losses have allowed other teams to slightly close the gap. The recent two wins for Deeside have taken them off the bottom of the Division, but Llanferres A, Mold A and Ruthin A all have played one fewer match.
In Division 2, the vital clash between Connah’s Quay and Rossett A went in favour of Rossett, who now head this Division. Broughton and Denbigh still are in trouble at the bottom.
The fight for winners of Division 3 is very close, with Wynnstay Arms having a 3 point advantage over Holywell B. Llanferres C are of team of young players new to Senior League badminton. While they are struggling, it is great to see them having a go and gaining experience in our League.
In the battle for Division 1 leadership, Flint Phoenix A’s challenge to Airbus faltered when, surprisingly, they went down 6 – 2 to Ruthin A. Match of the evening was a thrilling three game win for Sian Glover and Howard Robinson over Rowena Spencer and Daniel Roberts at third mixed. Flint Phoenix A then went on to redeem themselves with a convincing 7 – 1 win over visitors Mold A. Read more
