Become a Coach

Coaching is one of the most crucial factors in developing, sustaining and increasing participation in badminton, securing the future and quality in NEWBA. To be an effective coach, you will need to fulfil a number of different roles, covering the technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects demanded by our game.

NEWBA is committed to offering a top class coaching development service, from helping volunteers who want to coach junior club badminton, to assisting people who aim to reach high performance coaching standard.

Leadership Award in Badminton

The Sport Leader UK endorsed Leadership Award in Badminton is targeted predominantly at young people from the age of 13 upwards but it is also available to parents, teachers, leisure and youth centre staff, and volunteers and aims to develop an understanding of the game and the ability to deliver fun sessions.

United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC)

The United Kingdom Coaching Certificate for Badminton is recognised by Badminton Wales, Badminton England and Badminton Scotland and is transferable across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Badminton Wales currently offers the Level 1 Award and the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Badminton.

These qualifications focus on both the “art” and the “science” of coaching, introducing coaches to the “How to” skills of coaching as well as helping them to break down and coach the technical and tactical elements of the game.  There will be plenty of opportunities to practise and receive feedback on new skills throughout the courses.
