Tournament a great success
Under the stewardship of Tournament Secretary, David Hewitt, the North East Wales Badminton Association annual senior handicap tournament got under way @ Deeside Leisure Centre with a record entry supported by players from Airbus, Connah’s Quay, Deeside, Flint Phoenix, Llanferres and Rossett clubs. In Division 1 Northop bounced back from the loss of first mixed to edge out Llanferres A 6 – 2. Northop’s Geoff Jones and John Ellson showed impressive form to outlast the farther and son combination of Dave and Sam Clough over three close games. Read more
Deeside LC hosted the Badminton Wales Junior Shuttle tournament with over 70 entries. The U11 boys singles was won by Stephen Jong (Cheshire) 15-7,15-10 against Conwy’s Shamanth Moodalbyle. Moodalbyle and Tom Lanceley (Mold) won the doubles 15-10,15-6 against Oliver Harrington and Ryan Evans (Cheshire). Read more
Greater numbers of world-class players are entering the Yonex Welsh International Badminton Championships than ever before, following a competition level upgrade this November. The premier event will be held over 4 days (29th November – 2nd December) at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. Read more
Deeside Junior Open
Deeside attracted a big entry with players from Cheshire, Shropshire, Conwy, Glamorgan and Gwent.
In the U13 boys singles Flint’s Aaron Smith won all his group games but lost in a very close semi 16-14,12-15,8-15 to Cheshire’s Nikolai Baron. Cheshire’s Leo Young beat Iwan Price (Gwent) comfortably 21-15,21-9 in the final. Read more
NEWBA were rewarded with their first win of the season beating Herefordshire 20-0, despite missing 3 regulars from the team. Time for some to step in and step up their game. 1st up, mixed double. No problems there, with only one gam going to double figures!. Read more
With the week break for Round 1 of the Challenge Cup, I have taken the opportunity to update the Senior League Tables. Tables include all matches played so far this season. It is still early days, but there are some pointers to teams who will be challenging for top spot/promotion at the end of the season and those that are likely to be fighting hard to stay up. See where your Team is positioned……
I run Castell Alun Junior Club on a Wednesday night from 6.30 until 8.30. I would very much appreciate some help from coaches and assistant coaches out there. I don’t expect anybody to commit to weekly coaching but would ask whether anybody could volunteer now and again, even on a one-off basis, to deliver a session either to our beginners or our intermediate kids.
